The invasive, unconstitutional warrantless rental inspection ordinance which discriminates against renters has to go. Government overreach is unacceptable! Please ADOPT a Non -Discrimination in Housing Ordinance as proposed by SLOVoice.org. Thanks. Dave Baldwin Media Release February 14, 2017 From the Proponents of the Initiative Measure to Abolish Chapter 15.10 of the San Luis Obispo Municipal Code (the invasive, unconstitutional warrantless rental inspection ordinance) and to Adopt a Non -Discrimination in Housing Ordinance. The proponents of the initiative petitions seeking repeal of San Luis Obispo's invasive, unconstitutional and warrantless rental inspection ordinance announced today that they will be turning in approximately 1200 pages of petition signatures at San Luis Obispo's City Hall on this Thursday, February 16th, at 11 am. The proponents, Dan Carpenter, attorney Dan Knight, and attorney Stew Jenkins have long urged the city council to repeal its ordinance mandating warrantless searches of some rentals and to replace it with a Non -Discrimination in Housing Ordinance. The law permits six months for gathering signatures. Almost twice the number of signatures needed were gathered in less than four months supporting repeal of the warrantless inspection ordinance. I The proponents have spent weeks pre -validating signatures to reduce the City's time and cost qualifying the initiative. The law permits the City Council to adopt the initiative measure. Or, if the City Council desires to continue to enforce its invasive, costly and unconstitutional ordinance, it can set a special election.
