So we are writing now to make sure you hear our opinion. This ordinance violates property rights and is invasive to our privacy. It discriminates against both landlords and tenants making them a different class of property owners and occupants. For the ordinance to be fair it should be leveled against every property owner, but even then we believe it violates our constitutional rights. Beyond that you are setting up a system that creates new city positions that cannot possibly be paid for by the cost of the inspection fee. What about the pensions for these workers etc???? That will run into untold costs over the long run. The current mayor was elected in favor of an very fine city official Jan Marx because the citizens are angry about this rental inspection program. Listen to the voice of your constituents! I live next to a hoarder, have been invaded by RATS, have to smell dog crap all summer long as it piles up in the neighbors yard, look at weeds that seed my yard, and can not use street parking because of trees that are overgrown into the city street .... but nothing happens to change the situation because it's not a rental !!!### what's fair about this scenario? IF tenants want to insure they are getting housing in a condition that's acceptable then they should get a home inspection as a part of their lease agreement ... just like buyers do before closing on a house. This leaves the market open for both landlord and tenant to negotiate through faulty property condition issues and allows the free market to respond to current trends. We own many rentals all over this county and are conscientious landlords. This rental ordinance is an invasion of privacy and a degradation of private property rights and a violation of our privacy. Sincerely, Gordon & Diane Hansen "The Top Team" San Luis Obispo, Ca.
