Subject: Repeal Rental Housing Inspections in SLO
To: "E-mail Council Website" <emailcouncil()slocity.org>
Honorable Council Members,
I own a home on Fredericks Street in San Luis Obispo that two of my daughters occupied at different times while going
to Cal Poly. Since then many responsible young women students have lived there. In return I have tried to keep their
rents low and the property well maintained. Because the house was built in the 1970s it does not meet many current
codes. The new ordinance opens the door for city staff to make code compliance demands that will only result in higher
rents. Staff, who often are not property owners, can get extremely arbitrary and petty in their demands to make
expensive improvements. We, as property owners, have no recourse.
Please abolish Chapter 15.10 of the San Luis Obispo Municipal Code because it is open to abuse. Instead, adopt a Non -
Discrimination in Housing Ordinance, or similar measure that protects renters and property owners.
Thank you very much for your voluntary service to the community.
