Subject: Rental Inspection Ordinance n
Dear Mayor and City Council,
Please repeal the illegal and expensive Rental Inspection Ordinance. It is against our freedom from government
searches without due process, and has been very expensive for the City of SLO to initiate and run with all the
staff time, new salaries, meetings and the time and personal cost of it's citizen property owners.
I urge you to direct Staff to apply itself to existing laws and, more importantly, their enforcement to insure the
safety of students and renters who are victims of the few unethical (usually not local) property owners who
violate safety standards for their rentals.
Those of us who are ethical and responsible property owners are being severely penalized by a new ordinance
which is illegal, and will, in the long run, cost the city and the citizens much more. Already you are facing the
cost of a special election. Already, this ordinance has caused rents to rise. Already, you have forced owners to
sell scarce rentals. Already this has displaced renters who had low rents. You may have a costly lawsuit on your
hands.
Connect cause and effect and take responsible, common-sense action.
Please, just do your job. Listen to the voices of those who elected you.
Take action on the petition to repeal this Ordinance. REPEAL IT!
Thank you,
Jacquoline Williams
Citizen of SLO & Rental Owner
