Subject: Save Laguna Lake
Dear Mayor Harmen and SLO City Council Members,
San Luis Obispo has many lovely parks and I enjoy them all. Laguna Lake Park is unique. The large openness, the rural
feel at one with nature and most importantly, the Lake! Where else in our city can I find these winning
attributes? Nowhere.
In years past I loved seeing fisherman, kayakers young and old, wind surfers, model boats, Brides or families taking
photos, Cal Poly rowers and the odd dog swimming out to fetch a stick. Many people just come to just sit shore looking
over the water to think.
Over the past five years Laguna Lake has literally died due to the drought and the shallowness of the water due to
many years of building up silt. YOU can change that.
For the last 50 years our City councils have pushed Laguna Lake maintenance down the line. It’s so frustrating. The
neglect has caused the body of water that we have today. A dead lake. The buck can stop here. Really.
Please find the funds to begin the annual small dredging plan to return Laguna Lake into a thriving, lasting and
valuable body of water in our own back yard.
Thank you in advance for your support,
Terry Bothwell
