Subject: Appeal Fees
Dear Mayor and Council,
Perhaps you had a chance to read the responses on the City Website Peak
Democracy
for the pending agenda item. Increasing the appeal fees for residents is
looked upon
as punitive and is, therefore, not a good idea.
It is actually a rather pointless, considering:
An appeal used to cost $281.
STAFF would like to raise it to $623
Derek Johnson said that there are around 7 annual
appeals.
The suggested raise in the fee is $342
New rate would give the City $2,394 extra
dollars....per year.
This amount would, of course pay for ONE of the recent 93
employee bonuses.
Does the City wish to make citizen involvement
problematic for this little
increase in City funds?
It is possible individuals, including me, who wish to protect
others from
developments that cause degradation of neighborhoods
and limit the
1
peaceful enjoyment of permanent residences, are seen as
undesirable?
The fact is, we are (and have been for many years) looking
out for others
because we believe in what is right and what is fair for
others. We wish
our City Council and Staff felt the same.
Thank you for letting me share these thoughts/actions
personally at some
point with each of you because it is clear there are those of
you who don't
understand and may have a misconception of who we are,
what we think
and how much we care for our residents.
Do we care for young residents, especially those that
cannot afford to buy
at this time? Of course! Believe it or not, we were all in
that position at one
time in our lives. More on this later.
Sincerely,
Camille Small
