Dear Mayor Harmon and Council Members,
We live at a time when anything "democratic" is under attack, so we must be very vigilant in keeping open all
and any avenue to our democratic process, from the smallest things to the most visible. Keeping appeal fees as
low as possible (at least as low as they have previously been) is part of this process if you want to encourage
public participation in our government. Therefore the answer is simple: either you believe in the democratic
process and you keep the appeal fees as low as possible so that every resident has a chance to participate, or you
increase the fees and therefore block the path of participation to those who can't afford it. Your vote is much
more than a money vote, and you need to weigh-in the impact it will have on resident participation and on their
trust in our leaders.
