Subject: Budget - Safe Routes to Schools - Foothill/Ferrini
Dear City Council,
I've recently learned the proposed city budget currently has no funding to finish the Foothill/Ferrini crossing that was
prioritized in the last budget cycle. I encourage the council to reconsider including funding Safe Routes to Schools in the
budget. After watching the compelling video taken by Jonathan Roberts (https://vimeo.com/126540751) demonstrating
the crossing difficulties children and adults have, I believe this to be a project worth prioritizing this budget cycle.
I currently own a home in the Anholm neighborhood with a two year old daughter and another child due in August. By
the time they are ready to attend school I hope they will have a safe route to bike/walk to school. In addition, our family
recently invested in an electric assist cargo bike with the commitment to replace as many in-town car trips as possible.
Replacing car trips by bike is only possible if the infrastructure is there to make bicycle commuting safe.
