Mayor and Council Members,
I just arrived back from Europe, touring Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary. While there we saw photos and
heard of the terrible destruction during WWII. There was a desperate need for housing after the war. However,
in each of these countries, land was set aside for parks. We visited these beautiful parks filled with young
children playing to elderly sitting on benches or strolling the beautiful green spaces. The only time that housing
projects were shown was when the crumbling Communist era, cheap housing was pointed out next to beautiful
historic buildings.
Please don't take the short view as the Communists did and build cheap housing that crumbles after 50-60 years.
Take the long view of the free countries and cities. Build parks for the citizens to recreate, preserve our few
historic buildings and build housing projects that we can still be of proud in 50-60 years.
