City Council 6/1/2017 public comment agenda item. Please post. The North Broad Park remains a 40+ year unmet need and should remain as a City goal with the $900,000. in funds retained as designated 6/2016, included in the Parks strategic plan approved 11/2016 and per Parks Committee of March/2017. Nothing has occurred to change the need for a park, no additional study is necessary or warranted. The North Broad/Foothill area has been identified for high density infill which is proceeding with apartments and will likely see a wave of ADU's shortly. Access to parks is one factor indicated for identification of infill areas, along with nearby transportation. the need for a public space only increases as population density and loss of private space occurs. Based upon page 4 of the SLO Transit Short Range Transit Plan TABLE 1: San Luis Obispo Demographic Data by Block Group source US Census 2009-20013 Estimates (excluding the California Men's Colony and Cuesta/Los Padres Nat. Forest) Foothill Blvd population totals 6635 of 52316 or 13% of the City total composed of 14% of the City's 5% youth; 20% of the 6% over 64; 12% of the 4% disabled and 20% of the 28% residents living in poverty. Foothill area itself consists of 6% youth, 9% >64, 4% disabled, and 44% in poverty. This area is no less deserving of neighborhood park space than the newer areas being developed.
