In fact, why not expand this allocated fund to implement a park for the entire Foothill / North Broad area, in this budget? You know we don't mean a playground on a corner of a school. We mean an acreage park with play fields, courts for bocce, pickle ball and basketball, rest rooms, maybe a community meeting room like Meadow Park, and a playground. Things have really gotten bad when our city government ignores a needed park identified in the General Plan for 40 years. I think that you sense the frustration that an entire segment of our city does not have a decent sized and located park. If you want to do smart growth, you need the facilities that support a livable city in place before or with that growth; a wait of 40 years is not smart. Special interest planning is to let pressure groups and special interests intervene in the order of planned facilities. Such happened with the multi-million dollar skate park a few years ago. It appears your staff has mis-educated you as to the conduct of city business and projects. Many projects have been put at a higher priority than a North Broad neighborhood park. So, development in prime locations has almost foreclosed all the opportunities. Finally, we don't need another park and rec study to act on this now - it's been identified for 40 years! It would be great if you would support an additional $900,000 be allocated to the North Broad Neighborhood Park fund, to implement it as a direct, physical and useful community facility.
