Subject:Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update Suggestion
Dear All -
At a recent Parks and Recreation Committee meeting, Chair Whitener expressed his extreme displeasure with
the $900,000 designated allocation for a neighborhood park in the North Broad Street area.
He stated that a Master Plan Parks and Recreation update was imperative for a cost of approximately
$250,000.
This seemed excessive to me, so I researched the Parks and Recreation Master Plans of a few cities of our size
with like demographics. I also had the opportunity to review our past Master Plan for the Parks and Recreation
Department.
I am sharing via a "Google document" the beginning of a document that I was working on a few months back.
Perhaps it will help the current City Council investigate a bit more. Please feel free to use any of this as a
template.
While I understand Chair Whitener's desire to have an up-to-date plan, it seems that a devoted group of
athletes with writing skills could complete a new plan at a fraction of the price. It would also make a great
Senior project for a Cal Poly graduate!
