Without understanding the cause of his displeasure, I could only surmise he would rather have had the money for lights at the tennis court or some other use. I couldn't find fault with his disappointment (although it would not excuse the verbal attack on the public in attendance). If, however, it was because the decision for the money came from outside the realm of committee, something is wrong! Residents from this NW area (looking out for the good of all residents in that area) were proactive to find a solution to a long-overlooked goal. That should be viewed as a good thing. Please understand. It seems so unfair for some of you to 'single out' one or two dozen of us that speak for the rights of (and protection of) many residents. Are we wrong? Are we bad people? Do we have ulterior motives? I answer "No X 3" We hear permanent residents' concerns and we are willing to stand in their stead. Do we wish they would all come to Council meetings? Yes. Are they likely to? No. Whether it is official or not, we are their voice. You won't find an issue we speak about that has a selfish motive. Please understand. A park in each area of town is something good city government should want. A gathering place builds community. You might be aware that families are being driven from certain areas of the city because some areas are not family-friendly for both social and financial reasons. We have a remnant of families and young professionals left in some NW areas. You can reach out to them by welcoming the protection of the $900,000 fund set aside by the former Council. Please understand. By telling administration to 'spend it', 'spend it on anything you choose' you would be making the statement that a savings account is useless if it can be applied as a ready scratch to an immediate itch. That is not the money management this City needs. Please understand. He stated that a Master Plan Parks and Recreation update was imperative for a cost of approximately $250,000. This seemed excessive to me, so I researched the Parks and Recreation Master Plans of a few cities of our size with like demographics. I also had the opportunity to review our past Master Plan for the Parks and Recreation Department. I am sharing via a "Google document" the beginning of a document that I was working on a few months back. Perhaps it will help the current City Council investigate a bit more. Please feel free to use any of this as a template. While I understand Chair Whitener's desire to have an up-to-date plan, it seems that a devoted group of athletes with writing skills could complete a new plan at a fraction of the price. It would also make a great Senior project for a Cal Poly graduate! Thank you for your consideration.
