Dear Councilmembers,
It is my understanding that tomorrow night the SLO City Council will be considering a resolution in support of SB 562, the
Healthy California Act. Due to my disability, I will not be able to show my support for this important bill in person, but I
still wanted to share it with the council. Over the years, I have been enrolled in both public and private insurance
schemes and found that I vastly prefer the simplicity and certainty of public options over the labyrinthine self interest of
private companies. Beyond that, I believe that healthcare is a fundamental human right, enshrined in a national
Constitution that seeks to promote the general welfare of its citizens, as well as as being both a moral and ethical
imperative among a just people. As a citizen well aware of the fact that decent healthcare is oftentimes the most
significant predictor of mortality, I implore you to vocalize your support for healthcare for all, regardless of age or sex or
disability or immigration status.
