Growing up in the area, and continuing to raise my family here, we are forced to live in North County due to housing cost regardless of the fact that both my wife and I work in SLO. In addition, I have watched as numerous peers have moved out of the area due to the cost of living. As the economy continues to change and the push for knowledge workers is becoming more imminent, as well as critical for business success, we are forcing these workers out of the area due to an insane cost of living. As more of them leave, our local businesses are subject to a reduced pool of applicants to fill positions. As that happens, businesses are forced to leave the area in order to grow and thrive. We have seen this happen already and I do not expect it to stop unless we can support the "minds" that can fill these roles. It is critical we can support these families with housing within a reasonable budget. San Luis Ranch, in my opinion, is a line in the sand, a statement that the city can make, declaring that not only is affordable housing a priority, but the city is taking action. While it will take substantially more work than a single development, I believe the approval of San Luis Ranch is the right first step, and encourage you to vote accordingly.
