o I DO NOT support DECIMATING the last of our natural beauty
Dear City Council:
I urge you to save what is left of our natural beauty, fight pollution, and honor the remaining
sacred land. I beg you not to support the San Luis Ranch project. While it is true that those
of us who work here, should be able to live here, the problem is NOT an over abundance of
much needed natural breathing space, but rather an overabundance of landlords who feel that
it is fair and reasonable to charge $1500 for a one bedroom apartment in a town for which a
majority of employers expect top rate staff but do not pay a fair wage. I ask you, could you pay
rent with a $10/hour job? On top of which, we must compete with an obscene number of
college students, who are quickly outnumbering locals and who riddle the streets with litter and
traffic and cost tax payers far more than the revenue they bring in.
If we want our business to continue to thrive, they need access to wonderful employees, who
need to be able to afford homes. By promoting local business over big chain stores (allowing
the local market to better support reasonable living wages while absorbing the loss of
employers on a healthier scale), giving incentives which encourage landlords to value long
term responsible tenants at a reasonable rental rate, instituting rent control in given
neighborhoods, fining litterbugs and campaigning for clean streets, putting a stop to an ever
increasing student population, and protecting what is left of our sacred natural beauty, we will
see an increase in affordable housing so desperately needed! Developing will likely only serve
the student body, while pollution, traffic, littler and profane architecture will surely replace
perfection. I am one of those "great young professionals" of whom the developers speak and I
will leave this area if any more of the natural beauty is desecrated.
Respectfully,
Marcie Goodale
