HomeMy WebLinkAbout7/5/2017 Item 12, Dixon Dear City Council: A small working group of Laguna Lake community members have been meeting, independently and with the developer of the San Luis Ranch project, to help navigate this development to one that is cogent with our community, respectful of existing community needs, and enhances the area rather than detracting from it. At a workshop held at Whole Foods on March 4, it was determined that it would behoove the community to also address the City of SLO to also consider important measures in this housing development. As such, I have written this letter representing a group of residents from the Laguna Lake area, and have had it endorsed by 24 individuals who would like to see the following considerations and improvements made during the development of this project: i. In general, prioritized consideration for pedestrian access, but specifically, improved pedestrian access across Madonna Road at Oceanaire and at Froom Ranch and Oceanaire (once Froom gets extended to Dalidio.) These intersections will be Class I "significant and unavoidable" impacts according to the EIR. If we are truly trying to make this a multi-modal community, then we need additional infrastructure to support pedestrians and bicyclists, like push button lights that light up when pedestrians are crossing, wide, traffic-buffering sidewalks, and green-striped, dedicated bike lanes; 2. Prioritizing the Prado overpass and highway on/off ramps to go in Phase i of construction; 3.Additional turn lanes at Dalidio at the post office and at the school at Pacific Beach to ease congestion; 4. A cap of no more than 3o MPH on Froom; 5. Finally, supporting the tremendous asset that is Laguna Lake and making it accessible and safe, and assuring its future for the thousands of new residents that will be living in the area. As a whole, we support this plan and its vision for a sustainable community that protects and cherishes agricultural heritage, and will provide much-needed housing in the city. We are ALSO concerned that additional traffic and a lack of infrastructural support and creative vision on behalf of the City will turn this into another bedroom community of single family homes- a vision that is not consistent with the City of SLO's Master Plan and the desires of the residents who live and work here. I urge you to please consider the aforementioned requests seriously on behalf of our community. Signed, Residents of Laguna Lake Neighborhood Endorsed by: i.
