I feel the impact on traffic, increased water use, and small parcel size are extreme problems with this plan. It is my understanding that the proposed developed park area for the development does not meet city guidelines for new developments. While I understand the need for housing in San Luis, particularly for families, I do not feel the proposed development is a good one and feel that it will negatively impact those of us who do live here. I live near the proposed development, and traffic here is already at or above what I believe it should be for safety and ease of use. I wonder about adding so many homes when water usage continues to be an ongoing problem in our community and many others. Lastly, as a family living in a home on a small parcel, I hate it. I would not recommend only building communities with tiny lots to accommodate families as a solution. I have been hoping for a yard since we moved here, but none of the housing being built has any. My children would have loved to have had a house that could have had a yard to play in, but small lots can’t accommodate a swing or trampoline. You might say, there will be parks or community areas, but that isn’t a realistic solution when your child wants to play outside and you have to cook dinner or clean the house. Also, the noise and smells from neighboring houses impact the quality of our lives. I have to close our windows on hot days when my neighbor has a smoky grill going or when they are up late talking and I have to work the next day and it sounds like they are in the next room. I hope that you consider two things that I feel could help. I believe that you should do a development with some apartments and then larger parcel lots, so families who would love a yard could move there and sell our small lot houses to people who may need student housing or don’t have children and don’t care about having yards. Also, I believe the amount of students accepted to Cal Poly has gotten to be too many than can be handled by our city. There should be a ratio of students that are allowed to be accepted based on how many can live on campus. If that already exists it needs to be a better ratio. I noticed most of the comments regarding this project on social media have been against it as it seems many people in our community share my concerns. I hope you take our voices into account.
