Subject:Broad Street Bicycle Plan
Dear Council,
I live on Highland Drive and usually drive Chorro or Broad to downtown. I am a lifelong resident of San Luis Obispo and
also delivered the Telegram Tribune from my bike on North Broad, Chorro, and Lincoln Streets in the early sixties. I
don’t like any of the proposed plans and feel it is the tail waging the dog. I do agree with Keith Gurrnee’s viewpoint in a
recent Tribune Op Ed. Any loss of on street parking for residents or their guests is unacceptable. The residents who live
along the proposed plans have invested several hundred thousand dollars to live on those streets. Their property rights
and those of the neighborhood should take precedent over the bike lobby. I could support traffic calming structures
similar to those installed on Chorro south of Buchon in lieu of the current stop signs. It is my observation that most
bicyclists don’t obey the same stop signs anyway that motorists are required to. Please do not rush to fix something
that is not broken.
Thank you,
Richard Manderscheid
