I purchased my home in 2005 and have loved living in the Old Town neighborhood these past 12 years. Unfortunately, I will be out of town on Monday, August 14th and will not be able to attend the CHC meeting regarding 1171 Pismo Street. Therefore, I am writing to you to express my full support of the project as presented by Sally and Gene Kruger. I am thrilled that the Krugers have purchased 1171 Pismo, that it will now be owner occupied, and that they will be restoring this much neglected home. I have been through the property and it is truly in a state of disrepair. We are very fortunate to have new owners in Old Town with the desire, and the ability, to help us in preserving our historic inventory. The approach they are taking, in terms of preserving the character of the "original" home as seen from the street, adding side yard pop outs (sufficiently setback from the front elevation), demolishing the non -historic additions, and relegating the expansion/addition of the home to the rear of the lot, seems very appropriate. I am also pleased that the 1926 era cottage is being retained, as it has significant charm and adds to the eclectic appeal of the alley way. However, I do fully support the demolition of the 1957 era garage. Replacing this structure with a larger garage helps offset the compromise to a smaller street front development. Like the Krugers, my home also abuts the alley way. We too tore down a dilapidated, one car garage and replaced it with a new, 2 car garage and a studio on top. There are many examples of 2, 3 and 4 car garages on the alley way and their request is very much in keeping with the rhythm of the "hood". Again, I am in full support of this project as presented by the owners and their architect. We are so fortunate to have people like the Kruger's who are able to purchase homes in Old Town, and, have the ability to invest what is needed to restore these extremely neglected properties. I hope as a committee that you will see fit to approve their project as presented. Much appreciation, Steve Hopkins 1190 Buchon Street, Sart Luis Obispo
