The current setup of Broad st. is hostile to cyclists and when I'm riding with my 7 and 5 year old children, I fear for their safety. This area is also unfriendly to pedestrians as well, since there are gaps in sidewalk coverage on both sides of the street. Finally, vehicular traffic may also be impeded on Broad if someone is parked on this street but isn't parked right against the curb due to the narrow width of Broad st. between Ramona and Mission. If the City is serious about increasing multi-modal transportation and reducing car trips by 20%, we must connect downtown and the Foothill area with more pedestrian and bicycle-friendly routes. I want to instill within my children a sense of normalcy for multi-modal transportation. For me, the time for these changes are now, while my children are young. Finally, I understand residents of Broad st. will be the most severely impacted by any changes. However, I think they underestimate how traffic calming and reduced traffic flow through their neighborhood will positively impact their homes. I know if I lived on Broad st., I'd we welcoming these changes with open arms. Thank you John Oliver 257 Del Mar Ct. SLO, CA 93405 1
