I appreciate your taking the time to communicate with the Council. So..."leaving things the same" is probably not an option here. There needs to be a way to safely get a bike across 101 near this area, thus the project in the first place--Chorro is what accomplishes that, but it's not a safe situation now, I do agree with that. Just *walking* through the overpass on Chorro is pretty scary. 1 I do remember the speed bump disaster and agree we don't want another one of those. We might need to experiment a bit, though. That's why it's so important to get as many ideas as possible. If we knew CalTrans was eliminating the on and off ramps at Broad in the near future, that would help a lot, but I believe that planned change won't actually happen for many years, so we have to come up with something else. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, Carlyn Carlyn Christianson Council Member Office of the City Council 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401-3249 E cchristianson@slocity.org T 805.781.7122 C 805.550.9320 slocity.org From: Mike&Sharon < Sent: Friday, August 11, 2017 1:17:12 PM To: Harmon, Heidi; Rivoire, Dan; Gomez, Aaron; Christianson, Carlyn; Pease, Andy; Subject: Chorro & Broad Street proposals Dear Mayor Harmon and City Council Members, Please note: I am writing this as a resident, not as a Human Resources Specialist. I am writing this because I am not in favor of the proposed changes to Chorro/Broad streets. Sharon Seitz 1921 San Luis Drive SLO CA 93401 My concerns:  Chorro street is the main thoroughfare for residents on the west side of the 101 freeway to Foothill Blvd, and also residents from Los Osos that work in the City of SLO  Even though I do not reside on that side of town any longer, I travel it frequently to see my daughter and grandchildren off of Foothill and to go to the California Fresh Market.  There are 3 ways to cross town, California st, Santa Rosa st and Chorro Street  California street is congested with students (which is increasing by thousands of students each year) along with professors and staff at Cal Poly 2  Santa Rosa street is congested with Cal Poly students, professors, Cal Poly staff, commercial vehicles, vacationers and residents from Morro Bay and Cayucos  Fire Station #2 is located on Chorro/near Foothill and these proposed changes would increase their response time greatly- none of these options allow Firefighters to reach residents in the Broad/Chorro area in the quick response time they strive for, which also includes those residents on the other side of the 101 freeway near Chorro and Mill etc.  Chorro is also used by residents from the other side of town to drive their kids to Teach school or taking and picking up their kids from Laguna Jr High  If you have resided in San Luis Obispo for awhile, in the 1990's, the City tried traffic bumps, circles and wanted to add beautification on Chorro to slow down traffic. The residents convinced the City Council to remove the horrible bumps and put in stop signs (a much less invasive and less expensive option). Stop signs easily slowed down traffic and they still work well even now. Lastly, in each of the three proposed choices in the News Release, the Con's are the same with horrible results in these two areas:  exceed established maximum neighborhood traffic thresholds  parking loss (we do NOT have enough parking in this area now, so to take more parking away is not a good choice) I am asking that you do not approve the three proposals and leave Chorro as is - with bicyclists and motorists sharing the same road, (the same as on San Luis Drive). Regards, Sharon Seitz 3
