Subject:Aug. 15 City Council Mtg. - Broad St. and Safe Routes to School
Dear Mayor Harmon and City Council Members:
We are 30-year + resident of San Luis Obispo city. Our family has used and benefited from projects such
as the Railroad Safety Trail, Jennifer St. Bridge, Morro Street Bike Blvd and the creation of sharrow
bicycle routes throughout the city. Through the years, these improvements have helped our family ride
our bicycles to school, work and for recreation -- and riding bikes has helped keep us connected with the
community. None of these projects would have happened without some vision from our city leaders and
the community.
Tomorrow, you will be asked to consider plans for a Broad Street Bike Blvd and the Safe Routes to
Schools Plan improvements proposed for the Bishops Peak/Pacheco Elementary School area of town.
These plans are important to all of us -- city residents, Anholm district residents as well as anyone that
wants to travel this corridor on a bicycle.
Please support and approve the Safe Routes to School plan. In regards to the Broad St. Blvd options,
please take action and provide the vision that brought us those projects such as the RR Safety Trail and
Morro St Bike Blvd. I have confidence that council can guide us to a solution that makes it safer for
bicycles, pedestrians and retains the character of the neighborhood.
Thank you
Chris and Sterling McBride
