To the San Luis Obispo City Council,
I grew up, riding a bic�cle in San Luis Obispo; still my ma.in source of
transportation. Bicycling, once my favorite passtime, ruined by automobile
drivers and bicyclist who feel - California's stanc3ardized traffic laws do
not apply too th�n. More specifically, the laws pertaining to limit lines/
stop signs.
Upon the conversion of Morro Street to a bicycle boulevaxd, The stop signs
along this route became meaningless. Since the conversion, I have slanmed
my bicycle into, three stop sign run�ing bicyclist; I have lost track of
how many close calls and collisions. I hav e had, with stop sign running
automobile drivers; along this route. One of which, has left r�e with a per�
manent injury/disability. One, ��[orro ��treet, stop sign runner, came within
inches of completely mowing down Councilm�nber Christiansqn, The driver
moving too fast, ta physically catch up = and grab a make, model, license
plate - in order to put this driver in jail,
The City of San Luis Obispo, spent money to build roundabouts and install
speed btunps, i� � effort to slow down drivers; in our neighborhood, Auto-
mobile drivers, still blaze through our Old Town neighborhood; unchecked,
Now the City of San Luis Obispo, is considering spending a stack o� money
to replicate - you have got to be kidding, how is this safe ? - street-
scape from San F`rancisco/Berkely. Instead of spending this money, why not
just insist, San Luis Obispo Police Department, enforce the traffic laws,
Make San Luis Obispo, safer for everyone� pedestrians, bicyclists, auto-
mobile drivers. But if, the City of San Luis Obispo is desperate too spend
money. Hire another police officer, or two, their focus � enforce Califor-
nia's standaxdized. traffic laws,
Finally, painting bicycle lanes green, does nothing, Au��omobile drivers
still pass up a bicyclist in these �reen lanes, then imedia�ely turn in
frant of bicylist. Plus, continue to pull out in the direct path of a
bicylist, going full tilt; in a �een bicycle lane.
