Thank you for your note about the Broad St Bike Corridor. This is a tough one as so many folks are desperate
for a safer way to get across town. And so many others don't want this in their neighborhood. There has been
significant public engagement on this project already.
Thank you for your input, Mayor Harmon

Subject: BROAD STREET BICYCLE BOULEVARD
Dear Mayor Harmon and City Council:
Please consider the alternative that least impacts residential neighborhoods. If you
have the opportunity to wait for a final decision, it is possible that a small committee
of residents can "mix and match" various elements of 3 plans to come up with the best plan.
That may create a "doable" plan rather than accepting one that is fast-forwarded
by certain Council members and becomes cause for public pressure to undo it later
as has happened elsewhere.
The unwise decision(s) to allow 'Student Housing' in the midst of R-1 neighborhoods
is fresh on the hearts and minds of residents in this area. Within a few blocks of
each other, both prior and present Council have allowed two huge developments specifically
for housing approximately 250 students when City could have asked the developer to
present workforce housing. These were incredibly disingenuous plans initiated by Staff and
supported by Council. Residents pay the consequences. Thus, we hunger for a Council that
operates independently from Staff and directs Staff on behalf of residents. Decisions that bring
in money for the City while disregarding lives of residents in wrong.
Just plain wrong.
If you do not live in or near the neighborhoods most impacted by the 'Boulevard' plan(s),
it is possible you are unaware of the negative effects on the daily lives of people. These plans are not
just "conceptual' -- not just squares and lines on a map.
This is not a "theoretical" discussion or "philosophical" pondering.
Step outside of yourselves and look closely. Who among you is not aware of problematic consequences
and who is becoming the type of politician you don't even like?
Tonight you will hear from residents whose lives are being disrupted on several fronts and they
have every right to be disturbed. I don't live in that area but I care about those people's lives.

Many of us do. I wish all of you did.
In closing, I believe the wisest plan is yet to appear. This is not about resisting 'change' and this has
nothing to do with being a 'NIMBY'. Those still using this term are recognized as name-callers and lack
the civility that Mayor/Council are fostering.
Sincerely,
Camille Small
