RE: Avila Ranch Project
Dear Mayor Harmon,
We are concerned about this project and would like to bring to your attention
some of reasons this project should not be approved in its present form.
1. Developer says homes will be 'affordable'. What does that mean? What is
the price range? How many homes in each price range?
2. Will there be adequate water when there has been a 6 year drought?
3. The quality of life in this area will change from rural in character to
suburban with infrastructure not being adequately dealt with.
4. Developer has not provided viable plan for the flooding problem that exists
at the corner of Vachell Lane and Buckley Road.
5. Safety issues on Buckley Road (speeding, safely entering the road from a
side road especially with horse trailers, tractors on the road). Traffic will
increase according to developer by 25 per cent. Will it not increase even
more drastically when Buckley goes through to South Higuera and drivers,
not only that live in the proposed Avila Ranch development, but those
coming from south county who will use Buckley as their'road of choice' to
get to SLO and Cal Poly making it even more dangerous.
6. Noise and air pollution. Airport on one side and cement plant on another
side that spews out dust and particles.
7. There will be more traffic on an already dangerous and congested Highway
227 and plans to alleviate may be 20 years or more away.
Our home is in Rolling Hills and we live with safety issues every day in this area.
The County, City, and developers are trying to put a round peg in a square hole
and it doesn't fit! Please do not approve this project in its present form.
