They are to be cherished, and are the home of our fauna and flora. There is no need to extend the hours of accessibility, which would make them vulnerable. We are witnessing the wildfires in northern CA which demonstrate that very vulnerability, and further the importance of controlling unwanted and perhaps careless sources of conflagration. In the dark, even with excellent lighting, nature is yet more subject to abuse, be it unintended. Night is given to nature as well as to humans for its own purposes, and in nature it recovers from human interaction until dawn. Wildflowers close their petals until the morning light bids them open again, and mammals seek their prey without human disturbance. Please honor your creed of environmentally friendly values and exercise the judgment to protect our open spaces from further intrusion. 1
