Re:Consent Agenda Item #8 - 1135 Santa Rosa Street
From:Allan Cooper, Secretary Save Our Downtown
Date:October 15, 2017
Honorable Mayor Harmon and Council Members
Under Consent Agenda Item #8 ÅAdoption of a Resolution Denying, in Part, and Upholding, in
Part, an Appeal of the Architectural Review CommissionÈs Decision to Deny a Request to
Modify Approved Colors and Building Design for a Remodeled Building at 1135 Santa Rosa
StreetÆ you will be accepting a draft resolution prepared by sta that directs the applicant to
use the existing Custom Merlex Blend (grey) Ðnish as a primary building color.
On October 3, 2017 you directed the ARC (via the Community Development Director) that the
Council is comfortable with the darker shade but would like to see a reduction in the perceived
mass along the Marsh Street elevation by using color changes or dierent textures. It was
suggested that this change in color could be incorporated into the balconies.
You should be apprised of staÈs recommendation to the ARC (see below) showing a very
small area of the Marsh Street facade appliquÂd with wood siding. We believe this Åcolor
changeÆ on a wall plane recessed behind a balcony does not meet the CouncilÈs intent. In fact
this suggested design modiÐcation fails to reduce the monochromatic appearance and the
Marsh Street elevation remains bulky and massive.
We are urging you to pull this item and discuss staÈs solution as represented in this
photograph. Thank you.
