Re:Laurel Lane Road Diet
The initial Community Meeting held September 20, 2017 was well-attended. Concerns covered
the pedestrians as well as the amount of vehicle traffic. The main concern I see to be the
availability of the Fire Station located at the corner of Laurel Lane and Augusta. Has the
Planning Commission looked into this matter extensively? If not, please have someone do so
before any further action is taken.
The attached letter dated May 27, 2017 also addresses the matter of safety at this particular
crossing.
With the construction presently developing at this intersection, is it truly a good time to be .
considering an adjustment to the reduction of travel lanes? Could this project perhaps be
delayed until the construction has been completed and additional information has been
founded?
Your re-consideration of this "diet" would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Because—
I witnessed a vehicle going through the stop sign on Laurel Lane heading toward Johnson
Avenue without stopping at 5:00 p.m. on May 16, 2017. This was not the first time this has
occurred at this intersection.
And, .
A resident of Judson Terrace walking her dog was struck by a vehicle making a left hand turn at
approximately 10:00 a.m. on May 17, 2017 resulting in a broken hip, other injuries and injury to
her dog — r
I am again requesting an urent and immediate solution to the unsafe intersection by installing
either a traffic light, a flashing light or a pedestrian crossing IighUbutton.
This is not my first request. At a Planning Commission meeting earlier this year, I requested
something be done at this intersection for the safety not only for Judson Terrace residents but
the children attending the elementary school. There was a representative from Public Works in
the audience who stated they were researching the possibility of making Laurel Lane into a one
lane each way with a tuming lane. Nothing has been done to date. Now, with the construction
of a project on Laurel Lane at this same intersection, there will be more trafFc when additional
businesses and condos are in place.
In addition, with the new bus routes, more people will be crossing Laurel Lane thus increasing
the event of more trac accidents involving people.
Several years ago, a young student was killed at this intersection.
May I have your response, please.
Sincerely,
