Subject: Luneta Drive
Dear City Council:
OCT 11 2017
My husband and I are writing to express our concern about the plans to make Luneta Drive a through street. We are
opposed for many reasons and have sent emails and attended neighborhood as well as council meetings to try to make
our voices heard. As residents, we want to live in a neighborhood protected from increased noise, traffic, and student
rentals.
We are writing to urge you to support the General Plan Amendment to Eliminate the Luneta Drive Connection.
As a neighborhood community, we have worked extensively with the city to create this amendment which will keep our
neighborhood peaceful and safe.
The proposal is completely win-win. It simply makes permanent the closure of Luneta Drive, which has been in effect for
over 40 years. This is essentially a change on paper and involves no additional cost to the city.
Opening Luneta to through traffic would increase daily traffic on Luneta, Serrano, Palomar, and Tassajara to several
times their current daily volume, pushed Serrano over its maximum daily threshold, create numerous safety hazards,
especially at the intersection of Tassajara and Luneta (a two-way stop that MANY students blast right through),
significantly increase noise, and disturb at least three "peaceful" neighborhoods. Very few neighborhoods retain any
semblance of peacefulness now that Cal Poly students have been given more rights than residents, including the right to
be heard about the residents and to encroach on our neighborhoods.
Again, the proposal was developed by our neighborhood together with the city and is fully supported by local
residents. It simply leaves things just as they are (and have been for decades).
Please vote in favor of the General Plan Amendment to Eliminate the Luneta Drive Connection.
Thank you.
Tom, Ann, and Ambria Neumann, residents
