HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/24/2017 Item 7, Matthews Christian, Kevin From:Tess <tessdanm@pacbell.net> Sent:Sunday, AM To:E-mail Council Website Subject:Luneta Dr closure Dear Council members, We are opposed to the opening of Luneta Drive for the following reason: By putting a lot more traffic on residential streets it only compounds the area traffic problem. Yes, Ramona Drive is currently over the minor collector limits for daily traffic counts; traffic calming measures on Ramona Drive should be seriously considered. Suggested are a stop sign on Ramona at Verde Drive, speed bumps on Ramona and moving the bus stops off Ramona to Foothill Blvd. That would help bring the traffic count down without making the problem worse by circulating traffic through the residential streets. If Luneta Drive were to be opened, Serrano Drive would have approximately 1000 additional vehicle trips per day according to the city traffic study. This street is much too narrow and steep with a large depression at the bottom of the hill where it intersects Broad Street; thus making it unsafe for increased traffic flows. Additionally, this additional traffic would be in direct conflict with the Broad Street bicycle corridor currently being considered by the city for the Broad and Chorro Street Anholm neighborhood. Please try to understand that the fairness argument, on which the Planning Commission based their recommendation, did not consider the whole picture. Nor did the commission consider other remedies that would be more agreeable to the residents of both Ramona Drive and the surrounding residential neighborhood. We went door to door on Ramona and asked what those residents wanted. Nine out of ten residents wanted Luneta Drive to stay closed and signed the petition for keeping Luneta Drive closed, as it has been for several decades. We urge you to keep Luneta Drive closed to vehicular traffic. Sincerely, Tess and Dan Matthews 1
