Dear Councilmember Christianson,
As a 35 year resident of the special Anholm neighborhood, I
write to implore you to keep Luneta Drive closed to through
traffic.
Luneta is an oasis in an otherwise busy corner of SLO.
With the majestic trees and awesome views, it has become a
park substitute to many. It’s a perfect place for a stroll, bike
ride, pet walk, neighborhood gathering, etc.
It has also, through the years, been a safe bike path for
children/families riding their bikes to school. My daughter,
who is now a 27 year old ICU nurse at Sierra Vista, used to
ride her bike to Bishop Peak Elementary on this route.
The increased traffic through this narrow street, then down
narrow, steep Serrano, and onto the proposed Broad Street
bike path, would hugely affect safety and quality of life in the
neighborhood.
The sense of community, that so many enjoy, would be lost,
as many might withdraw inside, or behind fences for safety
and quiet.
The closed street has worked for 40 years, and at a time that
this council looks at decreasing traffic, and encouraging
biking, it just does not make any sense to undo something
that has benefitted so many for so long.
Please vote to keep Luneta Drive closed to through traffic.
Thank you.
