Subject: Luneta Drive - Please do not Open it to Through Traffic
Dear Council Member Christianson:
I live at 605 Serrano Drive, right around the corner from Luneta Drive.
I respectfully request that the City Council vote to keep Luneta Drive closed to through traffic.
I am extremely concerned about the effect opening Luneta Drive to through traffic will have on the integrity of our neighborhood. Traffic on
Luneta, Palomar and Serrano would increase many hundred fold and create a dangerous situation for pedestrians, bikers and pets in the
areas. As a step-mother to two very active tween-age boys who are out and about in our neighborhood I am especially concerned. The
quiet character of our neighborhood would change if Luneta were opened to traffic, becoming loud, polluted, and busy.
Opening Luneta would actually push Serrano OVER the daily limit prescribed in the general plan (Section 4.1.2 of the proposal). It says
"Additionally, Serrano Drive would be over the 1,500-maximum threshold." This would also set a precedent for it being acceptable to
unnecessarily exceed general plan thresholds. The Staff report said speeding would be likely on Luneta.
Local residents have worked with city staff for over a year to craft a plan that everyone is happy with. At this point it would be very
capricious for the City Council to change their mind.
Please support the staff recommendation to keep Luneta closed to traffic as it has been for decades.
Thank you.
