Good morning City Council --
I am taking time this morning to once again send you a request to leave Luneta Drive closed. I was raised on this street
from 1964 and my 88 year old mom still lives there. I help her out on a daily basis and so spend a lot of time on this
wonderful street still. Even with the street being closed, the traffic has increased over the years and, as with all around
town, the people drive faster. Sometimes I think that's because they forget how many families live on some of these
streets and how many kids still play along their borders. Luneta is unique from many in that it is used by connected
neighbors for daily walks. I am always amazed at the number of people walking each day along our street and how nice
it is to not worry about a lot of traffic.
I have been to the many meetings the neighborhood has had regarding this change by the city and was so excited when
we were orginally told that it would be recommended to leave the street as it was. When the fire department
supported the decision I really felt encouraged. And then, suddenly, we were back to square one when it was
recommended recently to take it to the City Council with the recommendation to open Luneta.
I would like to be sure you know that a great many of us really would like to see different action taken. There is already
a lot of changes going on with a lot more people in the area. Students continue to take over housing and the streets are
filling with parked cars because they put so many people into each house. Please carefully consider leaving this street
closed so that everyone in the area can benefit with a quieter street where walking and enjoying the "small town" life is
still possible for a few more years.
