Subject:Please keep Luneta closed
Dear Mayor and City Council members
I'm copying and adjusting my letter to you back from June 20th, 2016. I will be attending and speaking at the City
Council meeting today.
I have resided at 89 La Entrada Ave, in SLO for the last 7 years and I'm very concerned about Luneta opening up and
widening. My kids and I take the Luneta route as "Safe Route" and a great "Bike Blvd" to downtown. Recently we've
been organizing neighborhood events and meetings at the "Luneta Posts" as we call it now. Please see albums of
pictures of how this closed street area has become the heart of our neighborhood. You can also see the history of
engagement on this issue:

Allowing through traffic would be heartbreaking and unsafe to the neighborhoods. It's my understandings that one of
the reasons it was closed was that the Fraternity was drag racing down that street.
We feel that this is direct opposition of the Cal Poly/City/Cuesta study (
http://www.slocity.org/home/showdocument?id=7048) "San Luis Obispo Neighborhood Wellness/Community Civility
Effort" states as it's summary (pg 5):
We the people that live near Luneta will consider it an act of uncivility and unwellness if the road is opened and the
project is allowed to destroy the last stand of clustered trees and our last small gathering place in the
neighborhood. Would you want your quiet road opened up in front of your home? During the gathering we asked
neighbors to place their wishes for the Street on a wishing tree. Not 1 person said "Please open this road up to through
traffic."
We strongly advocate that keeping Luneta closed to through traffic. Please.
Thank you,
Roberto Monge
