From: Kaloni Pennington <kaloni.pennington@proudwater.com> Sent: Monday, November 6, 2017 10:06 AM To: Christianson, Carlyn Subject: Ordinance 1641 Support- Proud Source Water Council Member Carlyn Christianson, Hope this email finds you well. I received your contact information from an email sent out by the IBWA in efforts to lobby against the City Council efforts to ban plastic- Ordinance 1641. My name is Kaloni Pennington and I am the Outreach Coordinator for Proud Source Water. Proud Source Water is a start-up bottled water company out of Idaho and we are doing things differently. The company was founded on taking care of our world through social, economic and environmental sustainability. With the bottle being made out of 100% recyclable aluminum it offers people a bottled water option they can feel good about buying. It also allows us to offer a product that goes hand in hand with areas banning plastic bottled water. We appreciate your efforts in banning plastic in the San Luis Obispo area and believe that these efforts will continue to make a positive change in our environment. Below is the email we received from the IBWA in efforts to oppose this course of action. We recognize this type of lobbying is built from greed instead of what is actually good for the environment. San Luis Obispo City Council to Consider Plastic Bottle Ban At a meeting of the San Luis Obispo City Council scheduled for Tuesday, November 7, 2017, members will consider Ordinance 1641 that would ban distribution and sale of ALL plastic beverage containers of 21 ounces or less on city property. This is similar to what was implemented in San Francisco but would include water, sparkling water, soda, juice, tea and any beverage offered for sale in a 21 ounce or less plastic container. Mayor Heidi Harmon and the City Council have unanimously approved moving forward with the drafting of the ordinance that will be considered at their next City Council meeting. IBWA is asking all members that may have a presence in San Luis Obispo to contact the members of the City Council and Mayor Harmon and let them know of your opposition to this course of action. Below is the contact information for these elected officials. Mayor Heidi Harmon - hharmon@slocity.org - (805) 540-4137 Vice Mayor Dan Rivoire - drivoire@slocity.org - (805) 540-8812 Council Member Carlyn Christianson - cchristianson@slocity.org - (805) 540-9320 Council Member Aaron Gomez - agomez@slocity.org - (805) 540-9053 Council Member Andy Pease - apease@slocity.org - (805) 540-8133 1 CLICK HERE for IBWA's talking points on bottled water bans. Also, please inform City Council members that after the ban in Concord was approved, the LA Times published an editorial that stated the ban was "unnecessarily intrusive and problematically inconsistent." CLICK HERE for the LA Times editorial. IBWA will be working with local allies to further communicate our opposition to any bottled water ban and reaching out to City Council members with concerns over this concept. Please contact me should you have any questions. James P.
