Subject:Cannabis Business Support
Mayor Harmon and Members of the City Council,
I am writing in support of, and asking you to vote in favor of allowing legal cannabis businesses to open in the city of San
Luis Obispo.
By allowing cannabis businesses, this city can become an example of mutual respect and benefit for other cities. San Luis
Obispo is in a unique position to pave the way for working with both large and small cannabis businesses since the focus
in many cities has been only accommodating big business. We can use our long tradition of supporting small, locally-
owned businesses and really partner with people who share our community values.
In addition to paving the way and setting an example for surrounding communities, there is amazing potential for
generating tax revenue to fund important community programs. This revenue can be one piece of a broader solution for
deficits that will be coming with the Diablo Canyon plant shut down.
I understand there are plenty of people who worry about the impact of cannabis businesses in this community but, if we
partner with business owners who truly want to help this community, we can craft meaningful rules that protect
community interest and allow people to operate legal businesses within the city.
