Subject: Marijuana Dispensaries
Dear Lee Johnson,
I am a mother of five and a resident of San Luis Obispo for the past 21
years. I have been heavily involved in all of the schools my four
daughters and one son have attended and I have seen the significant
increase in the acceptance of marijuana and the number of kids using. I
have friends whose children's lives have been forever ruined due to
their early and habitual use of marijuana.
Many have sons (seems to hit the boys more heavily, but I know some
girls who have been affected as well) who are apathetic, have dropped
out of college, can't hold jobs and only wish to get high. One friend's
16 year old son committed suicide almost two years ago, after struggling
with depression and self-medicating with marijuana - all the kids
suggest that their friends use marijuana to counteract stress and help
with depression and anxiety, not realizing marijuana can cause these
symptoms!
I am so concerned about our beautiful little community and at a loss as
to why we are not looking to Colorado before we make ANY decisions
regarding the addition of brick and mortar dispensaries.
PLEASE spend some more time researching the horrendous effects this
decision would have on our community. I believe if you had seen what
I've been experiencing over the past few years, you would be very much
against this decision.
I'd love to talk more to you about this issue if you have any interest.
My son is now a junior at SLO High, and he is frequently stunned and
amazed at what he sees his old friends from Bishop's Peak Elementary
doing. He has asked me a number of times, "Why isn't anyone doing
anything about this????"
Sincerely,
Lisa Guy, Mother of five, SLOHS Black and Gold Boosters Co-President and
Secretary of POSAFY (Prevention of Substance Abuse for Youth)
