To whom it may concern,
I am writing in regards to the need for increasing street vitality and livable cities, specifically in
reference to the recent development at the corner of Chorro and Foothill. One of the
fundamental principles of vital urban street design is having commercial or public activities at
the street level. This engages pedestrians
am a proponent of increasing density in the city, especially combining housing, commercial and
public uses. I was surprised to find out the new development at Chorro and Foothill will have
private residential spaces at the ground floor. Because this is a major pedestrian and
commercial corridor, it is imperative that new development takes the opportunity to add more
street life vitality. Much of the existing commercial space in this area unfortunately has parking
in front which inhibits pedestrian activity. With new development, we should be encouraging
increased street vitality and livable cities, not reverting to the poor practices of the automobile
focused planning of the past.
Has this been considered and if not, would it be possible to discuss this at the next planning
commission meeting?
Sincerely,
Kelle Brooks
