Dear Chair Stevenson and Commissioners,
You have been presented a great deal of information and not the concentrated time
to consider all the details and the ramifications of each that Staff has on their full-time
jobs, obviously. Of course we wouldn't know if, as private citizens, you watched the
procedures emanating from "City Hall" as they materialized over time. There are groups
of residents who have been doing so for many years and have knowledge of various
manipulations.
While there are some changes that are acceptable, there are others that simply are
not. Among items that should not be considered are:
1) Eliminating any noticing
2) Consolidating committee/commission meetings
3) significantly cutting out public participation
You are as knowledgeable and intelligent as those presenting these City
programs/policies to you. You have some satisfaction of being members of a body
which is asked for input and perhaps can offer suggestions.
Now imagine yourselves private citizens (no longer on a commission) who are equally bright
and knowledgeable--plus having the burden of unintended (or intended) consequences
forced upon many residents of the city.
There is often a right and wrong to policies/practices being forced into place and
many can clearly see the difference. Consider that you/we might even be able to
make a difference by providing insight to an Advisory Body, given the chance.
Thank you for sitting on this Commission. Thank you for considering all points of
view. As City Staff lead your decisions, please consider us and leave the present
sequence of public meetings in place. No wording changes required! As you look for
possibilities of changing some elements of Zoning, you have the right and the
we depend upon to represent us, the public.
