Re: Zoning Updates for the City of San Luis Obispo
Dear Members of the Planning Commission:
I serve on the Economic Development Committee for the Chamber of Commerce and I am a
Broker Associate with Richardson Properties. Every day in my line of work, we see buyers
"priced out" of the San Luis Obispo real estate market. It's no secret that there is a lack of
affordable housing, due to an overall lack of housing within San Luis Obispo City. I ask you to
please encourage residential development throughout the majority of zones, so developers can
work to effectively bridge the gap between demand and supply for housing. I also ask that you
help to ensure that the City's development standards allow for the maximum density that the
General Plan will allow. Lastly, I ask that you allow for more development standard flexibility, to
help create solutions for more housing. The Chamber has been advocating for the Height for
Housing concept— I ask you to support this citywide and particularly in the downtown. I myself
am "priced out" of the San Luis Obispo market, and fortunately my husband purchased our
home in Los Osos several years back when the demand for housing wasn't as high. I won't harp
on the housing issue—we all know it's an issue. Please make every effort on your part to
encourage thoughtful housing development in San Luis Obispo.
Sincerely,
Kristen Gentry
