I grew up in Shell Beach and attended SLO High School from 2005-2008. Ever since I moved back to the area after graduating from Claremont McKenna College, I have been looking to buy property on the Central Coast, preferably in San Luis, as this is where most of my friends and I work and socialize. Unfortunately, as I began to make the amount of money that should be able to buy a home, the housing market has gotten a bit out of control. While my college buddies are buying homes in other parts of the country, I am back on the Central Coast trying to find an apartment to rent for $2000/month on Craigslist. The need for affordable housing in SLO is at an all-time high. People deserve to live where they work and this just isn't happening. Many are forced to look elsewhere for housing, commuting back and forth daily to San Luis for work. Not only is this costly and inconvenient for these commuters, it is also detrimental to our environment. Imagine all the pollution we could avoid with affordable housing. Tail-pipe emissions would be drastically reduced with shorter commutes and the ability for people to walk or bike to work. While I understand the arguments of those opposed to the project, such as preserving open space, water supply, increased traffic, and air quality, I think the benefits would far outweigh these risks. I believe the housing shortage for middle-income families is the biggest problem our community currently faces and that Avila Ranch would go a long way to remedy this dilemma. Thank you for taking the time to review my opinions, and I urge you to allow the project to proceed. -- Rob Rose | Associate Richardson Properties | Christie’s International Real Estate M 805-471-8351 | rob@richardsonproperties.com www.richardsonproperties.com | CalBRE License #02035157 1
