I relocated to SLO with my parents and two brother in 1996 and I went to SLO High, Cuesta College, and then Cal Poly. After I graduated with a Bachelors Degree I started working for a local company here in SLO, Sports Warehouse. I am still employed here after 10 plus years and I have been very happy and lucky to call this home. In the last two years I have gotten married and we had our first child this year. San Luis is a perfect place to raise a family but unfortunately we are barely affording rent and pretty overwhelmed when looking at local housing costs. My parents still live in SLO and its so nice to be able to drive a few minutes to see them. After living here for so long and seeing the changes, both good and bad, its sad, but we are considering relocation just to stay out of debt and set up our son and any future children with a comfortable life. It looks more and more like this isn’t a reality here in SLO for our family. We’d like to stay, we’d like to see this project succeed, we’d like to be able to afford a house in this area … but the affordability gap is pretty big. So many other areas in this country have awesome houses at a fraction of the cost, SLO is losing its local people, and so is California for that matter. We wish the best for any other families like us, and if we are still here in 3 plus years .. or whenever these houses would be on the market … we definitely want to live in this community.
