My parents still live in Paso Robles, my mother worked for the post office for over 35 years in Paso Robles, I have lived in San Luis Obispo County all of my life. I own and manage a local insurance agency in Atascadero , I have been in business for the past 18 years. I raised my son here in SLO County, he attended Cal Poly and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelors degree in Sociology. Back in 2006 when the real estate crash happened it adversely affected my business and I lost over 50% of my income due to the loss of insurance contracts and numerous contractors going out of business and moving out of state. I lost my home that I owned in Pismo Beach due to this crisis. Since then I have worked hard to build my business back up to make a decent living. I was also committed to helping my son with his college expenses so he could have a better chance at securing a good career and be able to live on the Central Coast after college. Now that he has graduated I am in a better position financially, however the housing prices have skyrocketed to the point that there is no possible way that either he or I can afford to buy a home. And for that matter rents are out of control as well, we are both in jeopardy of not being able to afford to live here at all. My adjusted gross income is right around $55,000, I need to be able to pay my home off in 15 years to retire at 71 or 72 years old. What I can afford within those perimeters is a $250,000 mortgage. I don't think it will ever be possible to find a $250,000 home in SLO County ever again so the next best scenario is up to $350,000 mortgage with a 30 year term. The affordable and workforce housing seems to be my only chance at being able to stay in SLO County. I feel that since I have lived here all of my life, raised my son here, and am a part of this community. I should be able to afford to live here and so should my son when he is ready to buy a home. We need these programs and so do many others that are working hard but not making enough money to live here!! 1 NADINE GENTRY INSURANCE AGENCY 7600 EL CAMINO REAL, STE 10 ATASCADERO, CA. 93422 OFFICE: 805-466-4611 2
