To the Advisory Body on Workforce Housing
I’m a 29 year old Navy veteran with a bachelors degree, and I earn the median income for the county. Even in this
relatively priledged position it’s difficult to find affordable housing solutions for my family.
The rental market is obviously propped up by outside capital buying homes in our backyard. It’s pricing out working
people and putting more vehicles on the road. The shortage of housing makes it difficult to get children to school and
commute to work. It also makes it incredibly difficult to build wealth with the income we have because every year rents
rise while wages stay the same. The cost of living here is high, and that’s ok because it’s a desirable area to live.
However, there’s no reason to keep this unsustainable trend going. Families are being displaced and good talent is
leaving the area. How do we ensure the best of the next generation is here to help govern and keep our towns and city
the way it should be? There is a balance to be had, and workforce housing is a step is achieving that balance between
local neighborhood community interests and that of wealthy landowners.
Please build workforce housing.
Please make responsible infrastructure choices so we can build workforce housing.
Please ensure that housing being build will be affordable to the workforce instead of exclusively to wealthy outsiders.
Sincerely,
Tony Turretto
