Dear Planning Commission members:
We urge you to revisit and rescind your recommendation to extend the downtown zoning standards to the Upper
Monterey area ending at the railroad, to allow more citizen input. We have already gone too high in SLO city with the 2
new hotels looming over narrow city streets, shutting out the sun and the views of our hills. The plan to put a 75 ft.
block at the corner of Marsh and Chorro is also too much. We live near the giant new parking structure planned for
Palm and Nipomo and understand (sort of ) why it’s going there – the city owns the land. But please recognize, the
people who live here (not the tourists you’re trying so hard to attract with the luxury hotels with rooftop pools) have
about had enough. These big structures are not in keeping with the character of the city and if SLO loses its distinctive
character it loses its soul and the things that local people love it for.
