HomeMy WebLinkAbout7/25/2018 Item 1, Kirschner From:Laura Kirschner <lkirschn@gmail.com> Sent:Sunday, July 22, To:Advisory Bodies Subject:790 Foothill Blvd. To the San Luis Obispo Planning Commission: The mixed-use project on 790 Foothill Blvd. must be drastically changed. It is unsafe and does not meet the needs of our community in San Luis Obispo. 1. The intersection at Chorro and Foothill is already dangerous, especially when Cal Poly is in session, and will be highly impacted by the 22 Chorro project which will open for the upcoming academic year and bring more bicycle, pedestrian, and car traffic to this intersection. I am extremely concerned about traffic, bicycle and pedestrian safety at this already dangerous intersection. 2. The very low income housing will not meet the needs of our community and it is questionable that it will continue as very low income housing. At the last ARC meeting it was stated that 12 studio units would be incorporated. San Luis Obispo has many very low income working families who work in local tourism industry and need housing. Studio apartments will not meet this need; these very low income families will not be able to live in studios. Also, how long does the project need to keep these as very low income? I am concerned that studios will quickly be converted to for- profit housing for Cal Poly students, and we need need workforce housing. Please reconsider this entire project so that we can keep our Foothill neighborhood safe and provide housing for the people who live and work here. The proposed development at 790 Foothill is not an asset to our community, it is a chance for an out-of-town developer to make money at our expense! Respectfully, Laura Kirschner 615 Cerro Romauldo, SLO 1
