HomeMy WebLinkAbout7/25/2018 Item 1, Boatright From:Daphne Boatright <daingar@sbcglobal.net> Sent:Monday, July 23, To:Advisory Bodies Subject:Planning Commission 7/25 Item #1 Members of the Planning Commission: July 23, 2018 Thank you for your careful attention and analysis of the proposed 790 Foothill project. Please consider the following when reviewing the 790 Foothill proposal: 1. Alan Cooper’s clear and wise analysis of the proposal. 2. The correspondence on behalf of the Foothill Blvd. Civic Defense. 3. No clear data related to 22 Chorro impact. The development at 22 Chorro has not been completed yet. Objectively speaking there is no way to determine the impact on health and safety related to the traffic pattern, pedestrian traffic, emergency services access and environmental impact. Each of these aforementioned aspects could be included in an applicable traffic study with the appropriate components in place. Appropriate components of the study include the following  Occupancy of 22 Chorro  # of vehicles owned by occupants  Cal Poly /Cuesta in session  SLOCUSD neighborhood schools in session  Taking into account the proposed 790 Foothill traffic entry/exit on Broad. I do not understand how any traffic study that has been completed could be applicable to the current proposal. 4. Health and Safety assessment (Objective data) There are significant safety issues related to pedestrian traffic, confusing signaling, narrow lanes and increased use with Cal Poly Cuesta and K-12 classes in session. I would challenge each of you to make it a practice to travel throughout these intersections: Ride a bike, walk, push a stroller or wheelchair, add a dog on the walk , drive a car, drive a truck and observe the traffic, signaling, speed and issues related to navigating across Broad, Chorro and Foothill. It is a mess. Safety impacts health and the health of our community is at risk. Please wait until 22 Chorro is completed and occupied before further decisions are made. Resident representation would be helpful to determine the parameters for objective analysis of traffic in the Chorro/Foothill/Broad/Foothill/Meinecke/Chorro/Broad /Ramona etc. 790 Foothill does not stand alone. A contextual consideration is prudent. The potential impact is significantly dangerous on many levels. Respectfully, Daphne Boatright /Anholm 1
