I have concerns about the 790 Foothill proposed project. I have read reports and talked with city staff all are
consistent that this project will not have a negative impact on the health and safety of my neighborhood. I can
only assume that staff has not spent anytime in this area. I live on Cerro Romauldo and the traffic and parking
are very problematic.
The traffic assumptions are based on reports from 2016 – Poly has increased enrollment due to a “mistake” and
22 Chorro was not built. Things have changed drastically and not for good. In September 2017 my street was
bumper to bumper cars when Poly freshpeople were told not to bring cars on campus. Poly solved the issue for
them but pushed the problem into my neighborhood.
I listened to the ARC meeting and was amazed that staff do not think the large bedroom with a privacy screen
will not result in more students in the room. If there are not going to be more students in the room who is going
to enforce that?
I consistently hear staff say students are entitled to a place to live but isn’t that Poly’s responsibility? Dorms in
neighborhoods does not seem like a good planning decision.
We need affordable workforce housing. This project has studios that are for low income – why aren’t the larger
apartments low income. If this is really an effort to have affordable workforce housing, per the City goal, is the
workforce really going to want to live in a dorm?
I heard the developer say at the ARC meeting he was following the letter of the law. I would like to see SLO do
the same. Do not grant him any exemptions that he does not legally have.
Please stand firm keep our city a place where we all want to live.
Thank you.
