It is out of character with the surrounding neighborhood and will negatively impact pubic safety. Some may assert that the building at 22 Chorro is similar in design. Most residents are appalled at the massiveness of the structure that is now under construction. It blocks public views of the mountains and peaks. It should have been designed differently to support the General Plan and guidelines. For this same developer to propose another tall project featuring expensive rental units that will further block scenic public views is unconscionable. Also of concern is that the Multi-modal Transportation Impact Study's conclusion on this project is insufficient. There WILL be significant traffic and parking impacts. The study fails to report how traffic will be increased by the true number of future occupants and did not adequately take into consideration the future resulting traffic, bicyclists and pedestrians from the nearby projects of 71 Palomar and 22 Chorro. The mechanical lift for cars at 22 Chorro is going to cause untold havoc at the intersection of Chorro and Foothill. This should not be compounded by another huge structure at 790 Foothill. The project is also grossly inadequate in the parking plan. This will have a negative impact on the surrounding neighborhoods and local businesses. A realistic in depth traffic study should be required, when Cal Poly is in session, before you determine whether or not this project will be detrimental to health and safety. I would also like to remind you that the Fire Station on North Chorro uses that intersection daily to support the health and safety of residents and tourists alike. Public safety should take a priority and be emphasized in the study. Please insist upon the application of our General Plan and Community Design Guidelines with regard to preserving the scenic views along the designated Foothill scenic corridor. Please preserve what our city leaders and staff have historically worked long and hard to protect. Residents and tourists treasure the small town feeling of our City. This proposed structure does not fit the mold of what many residents and tourists love about San Luis Obispo. Please make the right decision and deny this project. Thank you for your consideration.
